Old Crypt in Green and Gold

There was a post in WetCanvas, an art forum, where someone shared their photo of a crypt (yes, just that) and asked for others to make their own version and we could do what we want with it so I added it to one of my favorite, but reworked backgrounds and I found another photo with steps and started playing with the image so it went from a crypt in a cemetery on a sunny day to an ancient crypt in the woods with light filtering down through the trees.  The only thing I'd still like to add is a ghost or perhaps a vampire.  I'd have to admit that my version went to an extreme.

The most difficult part was deciding on how much light to include and where. Just moving the lighting a little completely changes the focus and mood. I loved the light in the distance in the original background, but I had to lighten the tomb especially the door to make it show up yet not enough to make it cheerful.   I finally felt satisfied when I make the background trees in the middle appear a little closer and I brought the light almost to the ground which at least to me justified the extra light on the door.

Fantasy Fairy in the Woods 3Hada en el Bosque 3

After finishing Fantasy Fairy in the Woods 2, I decided to make another version where my fairy is more strongly presented in the work so I cropped the background and made him fit about half of the space where the eye would normally focus. This is more in line with the way my masculine male fairy was presented in the first work in the series only this time I feel I did a better job of the wings and the pose is the same as in the second version. I make no apologies since this series was my first attempt at doing any fantasy art and wings are not very easy to do.

If you remember a while back I made my first fantasy artwork which is my masculine male fairly. I did it because I was tired of miniature fairy people that were either only female or they were extremely feminine males typically very boyish looking even though they seemed to be adults in overall shape. I was also very tired of fairy people always in bright high-key light playing wind instruments or dancing. I really don't think that is any more accurate than saying that Americans are always eating hot-dogs and that Mexicans eat everything with chili peppers. Generalizations are just that so in my quest to break the mold here is the next two works in my Fantasy Fairy series with male fairy art.

Here's my "antiqued" version which is sepia enhanced along with a few other details.

Fantasy Fairy in the Woods 1Hada en el Bosque 1

If you're a regular reader, you know I love to experiment and stretch my abilities and subject matter.  Considering how I haven't tried anything really new for a few weeks, I started this fantasy fairy image last evening and you'll see the most up-to-date version here.

Fantasy Fairy in the Woods 1

This is my first attempt at anything fantasy or at drawing wings so please, if you don't like it, add a comment with a specific suggestion to improve it (give steps!). I used Photoshop for this, but I have Painter too.(lo siento, aun no no hay traducción para esta entrada)
